Leading chronology improvement: Reflection and planning tool

This tool aims to help leaders assess their current understanding of and practices related to chronologies. Challenges with chronologies are complex and connected, so this tool supports leaders to recognise readiness for change and find a place to start. It will support leaders to identify incremental, manageable changes and take meaningful actions for improvement. The tool poses questions across a number of themes to support reflection and help leaders think through the supports and barriers in their own context. It also offers prompts from research and ideas for activities.

This updated version brings together learning, insights and evidence from research, practice experience from learning partners involved in testing the tool, feedback from the National Chronologies Group, and the Scottish Government. The tool is not chronology guidance because this already exists nationally and locally in some areas, but it can be freely adapted to complement other guidance, tools and learning materials.

The style of the tool is informed by a coaching approach, focusing on strengths, assets, reflection, accountability and clear goals.

This resource is part of the National ASP Learning and Development Framework. It is a potential learning resource for all workforce levels.
