Working Together in Adult Support and Protection

An online resource supporting the participation of adults and carers throughout Adult Support and Protection.

Participation means people accessing services are involved in their own care, support, and protection. Services share decision-making with them and their carers. Understanding, trust and supportive relationships all underpin successful participation. As professionals, supporting participation is likely to involve being flexible and open-minded.

The four parts to the resource – Listening, The Journey, Meetings That Work, and Getting On With Life – reflect the wide range of skills and techniques needed to make participation successful. All are accompanied by user-friendly tools to use in direct work with adults and carers.

You can work through the resource at your own pace and in your own time, stopping to gather your thoughts at the reflective points embedded in the resource. There is also an accompanying bitesize video containing key messages.

This resource is a completely updated version of a handbook from 2011, Working Together in Adult Support and Protection. This was developed by Altrum and the University of Stirling (and originally hosted by the Thistle Foundation). This updated version was created in partnership by Iriss and the NASPC (National Adult Support & Protection Coordinator for Scotland).
