Involving Supported People in Commissioning – A guide for anyone involved in commissioning and procurement of social care services

This report is intended to be used as a short, accessible guide for commissioners, and anyone working in the commissioning and procurement of social care services, on involving supported people in commissioning and strategic decision making and planning.

About the project

The Iriss Ethical Commissioning Programme ran a project on involving people with lived experience and disabled people in the commissioning and planning of social care support.
Iriss held a workshop with members of People First (Scotland), a disabled people’s organisation for people with learning disabilities, from across Scotland and developed this guide with their feedback.

The guide highlights the importance of involving supported people in all levels of commissioning. Members of People First told us what is working well in social care, what needs to change and what’s important for people receiving social care support and how they want to be involved, not just in decisions about their day to day support, but in commissioning and planning of support services.
