Adult Support and Protection: Everyone’s business

Adult Support and Protection (ASP) is designed to support and protect adults who are unable to safeguard themselves, their property and their rights. The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 defines this work, and provides the legislative framework.

The report raises awareness of ASP and its important role in and contribution to keeping ‘adults at risk’ safe. It introduces readers to key ASP definitions, duties, processes and stakeholders. This includes information about adults at risk of harm, who they are and what harms they are experiencing. Significant trends are highlighted, including the effect of COVID-19.

The report also highlights key issues to consider when supporting and protecting adults at risk of harm. Implications for future work are also considered.
