Public protection learning and development

There is a lack of data at a national level about the learning and development opportunities available for practitioners across the six public protection strands. The Scottish Government and NPPLG are keen to understand what is being provided and what impact this is having on practice, as well as where there are gaps in provision which should be addressed at a national level.

The Scottish Government has asked Iriss to undertake a review of the Learning & Development landscape across Public Protection. This is the second year of this project. This work contributes to priority 3 of the National Public Protection Leadership Group (NPPLG) workplan.

This project spans two key areas:

1. Mapping: What exists currently for L&D provision for those working across public protection?
2. Impact: What is the impact of this activity on frontline practitioners?

In year 1 we undertook a mapping exercise to explore what current L+D provision looks like and the gaps both in delivery and in the data about provision. Our key findings report is available now.

In year 2 of the project we are conducting qualitative research with the public protection workforce to better understand the implications of these findings and what action may be required to support L+D provision from a national and mutli-agency perspective
