Our approach

Our strategy

Our 10 year strategy highlights the three resets we need to help those working in social work and social care by creating the conditions for the sector to flourish:

  • Roles – Develop and test new roles and approaches to the practice of social work and social care support; this includes building ways of working from the question of ‘what people need’ instead of what currently exists.
  • Leadership – Develop and test new social work and social care leadership that combines a fundamentally person centred, systemic approach with functional and other leadership approaches.
  • Systems – Develop and test new approaches to organising social work and social care that take a fundamentally systemic approach to influence locally and nationally.

We know that those working in social work and social care are under constraints and pressures - workloads, expectations, processes, paperwork, systems and environments - and that this noise pulls them away from their core values and motivation. These pressures make it harder for them to find space to reflect and improve practice through learning, reflection and relationship building. We work to remove these barriers.

Our innovation model

Our innovation model is based on an agile approach and has four iterative stages. We have been using this model since 2023 as we learnt from past work that readiness and collaboration are vital to innovation, along with a willingness to be flexible.

This approach allows us to explore systems and details more widely, giving depth and insight to the projects, and the partners themselves, while staying on track to deliver the agreed outcomes.

Not every project uses all four stages of the model; we focus on the stages that are important to the individual situation.

Explore

We will spend time building a relationship with you, your team and other partners, to understand your context and aims, and build trust. As part of exploring, we will also gather and share relevant knowledge and evidence – research, grey literature, published case studies – to help understand the topic.
