My Home Life (MHL) was originally a project set up in 2006 by the National Care Forum (an organisation that represents not-for-profit care homes) and Help the Aged. It was established to promote quality of life for those living, dying, visiting and working in care homes for older people through relationship-centred and evidence based practice. MHL has evolved into a collaborative movement of people across the UK. It brings together organisations that reflect the interests of care home providers, commissioners, regulators, care home residents and relatives, as well as those interested in education, research and practice development. It uses an appreciative inquiry (AI) approach that focuses on what works well, and identifies strategies for doing more of what works.
My Home Life Scotland division is led by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) in partnership with Age Scotland and Scottish Care. It supports the Reshaping Care for Older People (RCOP) change programme 2011-21, which addresses the challenges of supporting and caring for Scotland's growing older population. A valuable offering of MHL is the Leadership Support and Community Development Programme (LSCD), which has been designed to help managers recognise the value of transformational leadership and relationship-centred care. It aspires for managers to develop new skills and understanding to work in equal partnership with other health and social care professionals. Further details are available on the website.
MHL Scotland provides resources for evidence and policy, as well as good practice. It showcases and actively encourages the sharing of good practice examples - good news care stories that can be celebrated in the sector.
